Protect your personal information online

13 December 2007

When you are banking online you should always go to your bank web site by typing in the url in the address bar at the top of the page or use a bookmark by adding your online banking web site to your favourites.

  • You should NEVER go to your bank web site via an email.

Taking simple, common sense protective steps when using your computer can save you some inconvenience later should your bank account be compromised.

Common sense protection is not just restricted to using you computer at home.

You can and should always cover when you punch in your pin number when either at an Automatic Teller Machine (ATM) or at an EFTPOS terminal in a supermarket.

Banking online is a product that should make your life easier with after hours banking made possible in the comfort of your own home.

Shopping online is another advantage you have with online banking, with the ability to transfer funds into your credit card or debit card account to buy products online at cheaper prices than you generally find in retail stores.

Not taking the proper care with your personal information can result in some stress when having to waste your time at the bank trying to get new credit cards or worse still, having to deal with identity theft after a policeman hands you a summons to appear in court for something you didn't do.
