Banking online fraud myth

19 December 2007

The biggest fear everyone who does their banking online is that they will be the innocent victims of a fraudster. There is no reason to believe that just because you do your banking online that you can and will be targeted by a fraudster.

To have your money stolen you need to have the facility to transfer money. This is not an instant feature of your online banking account. It is a feature you have to apply for at the bank in person.

However, you can have your money sent elsewhere via BPay, but if you check your account daily then you should notice if there is any large transaction/s.

Many online casino and poker companies have BPay facilities so it is clearly one way to steal your money.

If you do have the ability to transfer money to other bank accounts then make sure that you keep your computer up to date with the latest anti virus software and a firewall.

It may even be a good idea to invest in a mobile phone to have SMS messaging protection that is offered by several leading banks.

A safe and secure computer will allow you to not only save time by banking online but you can also apply for products such as personal loans, credit cards and even home loans without having to waste your time going to a bank.
