AUSTRALIA'S premier writer on banking and financial services, Eric Johnston, has joined The Age. As financial services editor, Johnston will form a team with investment writer Vanessa O'Shaughnessy (nee Burrow) to provide you with a depth and sophistication of coverage simply not available elsewhere - except on our website, which is fully integrated with the newspaper's business section.

Johnston will help buttress a team that for years has - through print and online - commanded the nation's biggest audience for news on domestic and international markets, economies, companies, industries and public policy.

He joins us from The Australian Financial Review, before which he was with Dow Jones, where his stories also appeared in The Wall Street Journal. He has worked in Canberra, Sydney and Melbourne. -- Michael Short, Executive editor - business
